The Home Care Program

In India family bonds are still very strong. Using this advantage, PPCS works in partnership with family members.
For patients who are otherwise unable to travel to the hospital due to financial, social and/or physical reasons, our community palliative care staff provides help, support and advice about their illness in the comfort of their own home. This could be one visit or several over a period of time whilst they need our support.
Through this we are able to:
-
Assess the needs of the patients, carers and families
-
Co-ordinate with other care services
-
Provide emotional support by listening, caring and understanding
-
Provide bereavement support to relatives and frie
This five-day per week ‘Home Care Program’ became operational in June 1996. There are two teams, one led by a doctor and the other by a nurse. From the main Centre in Calicut alone, this program generates 20-25 patients every week.
At present all manpower required for this 'Home Care Program' is being provided by PPCS. We hope that in the future, a community network of volunteers is established who are able to manage, assess and look after the patient with only the support and guidance of PPCS. |
