Rehabilitation

pcpbt

The disease and the cost of curative treatment often plunge the family into depths of poverty. The Palliative Care Patients' Benefit Trust (PCPBT) is a sister charity that was created to help rehabilitate these patients and their families because when some means of livelihood can be secured the difference it will make is enormous.

PCPBT mainly provides an Education Aid for students who are children of patients registered with Pain and Palliative Care Society (PPCS). As the illness often causes a huge financial strain on all members of the family, this Education Aid was created to ensure that there is no disruption in their education.
PCPBT also gives travel support for very poor patients who are otherwise unable to visit the out-patient clinic at their own cost.

"Food for Survival"- also part of our Rehabilitation Program, this project was commenced in March 2002. This is a program that provides rice to the family on a weekly or monthly basis with the amount of rice provided dependent on the size of the family.

PCPBT tries to help families especially when the sole earning member of the family is rendered physically helpless due to the illness. If another member of the family has a special skill or wants to start a new venture, or if the patient wants to acquire a new skill, PCPBT provides the funds required to make the family financially self-sufficient.

Of late, we have started getting an increasing number of children suffering from cancer and looking for palliative care. This is seen as a positive step forward as palliative care provided in children is usually otherwise relatively non-existent. We also try to alleviate pain arising due to procedures that children normally undergo during the course of any curative treatment.
